Before You Begin
Have these items ready to make the process smooth:
- Digital files: Documents, photos, videos, or any files you want preserved
- Beneficiary information: Names and contact details for your heirs
- Security questions: Questions only your beneficiaries can answer
- Payment method: Credit card or crypto for vault creation
Step 1: Choose Your Plan
Deheritance offers flexible options based on your needs:
- One-Time Vault: Perfect for single documents or small collections
- Editable Vault: For files you might need to update
- Subscription Plans: Multiple vaults with ongoing management
Step 2: Create Your Vault
The vault creation wizard guides you through:
- Basic Information: Title, description, and purpose
- File Upload: Add documents, images, videos (up to size limits)
- Beneficiary Setup: Designate who can access your vault
- Security Questions: Create verification questions
- Trigger Conditions: Set when vault should be accessible
Step 3: Encryption & Security
Your vault is protected with military-grade security:
- Client-Side Encryption: Files are encrypted on your device before upload
- AES-256-GCM: Industry-standard encryption algorithm
- Shamir Secret Sharing: Keys split into multiple pieces (3-of-5 threshold)
- Post-Quantum Security: Optional ML-KEM-768 protection
Step 4: Save Your Keys
After vault creation, you'll receive:
- Vault ID: Unique identifier for your vault
- Fraction Keys: 5 key pieces (need 3 to unlock)
- Backup File: Encrypted backup of all keys
Important: Store fraction keys in separate, secure locations. Give copies to trusted beneficiaries.
Step 5: Share with Beneficiaries
Ensure your heirs can access the vault when needed:
- Share the vault ID and at least 3 fraction keys
- Explain the security question answers
- Provide instructions for accessing the unlock page
- Test the process with a small test vault first
